Soccer Falls in Regular Season Finale

HOUSTON - The University of Houston soccer team fell, 1-0, to cross-town rival Rice in the regular season finale on Friday night at Robertson Stadium. The Cougars finish the regular season 7-8-3 overall and 3-4-3 in Conference USA play.
Rice controlled the field for most of the first half, taking six corners in the first 20 minutes. Despite outshooting the Owls, the Cougars were unable to net the ball. Senior forward Katelyn Rhodes saw an opportunity in the 17th minute, but went wide.
Both teams went into the locker rooms scoreless.
The Owls scored the lone goal in the emotionally charged second half. Senior defender Lauren LaGro netted a penalty kick in the 63rd minute.
Rice (11-6-3, 8-2-1 C-USA) leads Houston 6-3-3 in the all-time series.
