HOUSTON - The University of Houston soccer team has added junior college transfer Sara Latham and Division I transfer Tessa Maffett to its roster, head coach Chris Pfau announced Friday afternoon.

Latham, a transfer from Modesto Junior College, is a skilled attacker offensively and has the ability to take over a match single handedly. She finished with 40 goals and 10 assists over two seasons and was named First Team Big 8 Conference both seasons. In 2010, Latham was awarded Offensive Player of the Year and was selected for the All-Regional Team. She also received Second Team All-American honors in 2011.

"Sara has had a great career at Modesto Junior College and has shown she can not only score goals, but be a very dangerous player," Pfau said.

Maffett joins the Cougars from Florida Atlantic University, where she saw action in 16 games for the Owls as a freshman. The Kingwood, Texas native, logged 786 minutes on defense and had two shots on goal in her first collegiate season. Maffett also played a role on defense in each of the Owl's two shutouts last season.

"It is great that Tessa has come back home and is at Houston. To have a very talented local player come back to the area shows the changes to not only the campus, but the direction of our program. Tessa is a very strong defender that will add experience as we head into the Big East."
