HOUSTON - Two Greater Houston Area student-athletes signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Cougars next fall, head coach Chris Pfau announced Thursday. Shayne Clewett (Katy/ Seven Lakes H.S.) and Tiffani Echeverria (Sugar Land/ Clements H. S.) have joined the 2013-14 squad.

"I am very excited about this class and what they will bring to our program," Pfau said. "This class will not only give us depth, but will push for starting time. They will bring a desire not only to get better, but a desire to push our program to new levels on and off the field. I am very excited about the future here at Houston, not only with us entering the Big East, but with our 2013 class and a very talented group of returners. I expect big things from us."

Clewett, the athletic defender from Seven Lakes High, helped her team advance to the State Finals last season. The Katy, Texas native, and a First Team All-District member, set a school record for consecutive defensive shut outs in 2011 and was named Defensive MVP of her squad. Clewett will finish her prep career as a four-time letterwinner and played for Challenge Soccer Club.

"Shayne is a very athletic and tough defender that is not only a good 1v1 defender, but can go forward," Pfau said.

Echeverria, a three-year letterwinner under head coach Robert Boagni at Clements High, was a vital part to the Rangers success in 2012. She tied for the team lead with 11 goals during the regular season and helped her team advance to the regional semi-finals. To cap her impressive junior season, the Sugar Land, Texas native, was named the MVP of District 23-5A. Echeverria played club for the Albion Hurricanes.

"Tiffani is a very technical player," Pfau said. "She can keep the ball and sees the game very well. She will be able to control the tempo of the game for us."
