HOUSTON¬-The University of Houston soccer team wrapped up their first week of spring practice this week at Carl Lewis Field.

The Cougars took the field Monday afternoon for the first practice in a schedule that will last through April. In her sixth season at UH, head coach Susan Bush is excited to be back on the field and is looking forward to getting everyone individually prepared for the fall.

"Everyone is so excited to be back," Bush said. "It's a totally different feel and just a fresh start. We'll focus a lot on the individual development, such as repetition, technique and confidence. We still want to get stronger, faster and maintain our fitness but a lot of the emphasis is on the individual."

After a conditioning test on Monday the team hit the ground running with multiple drills on the pitch.

"It feels great," junior goalkeeper Cami Koski sad. "Everybody is having fun and is excited. We're all working hard trying to get back into the groove of things."

The Cougars will practice from 1 p.m., to 2:45 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays and from 8:30 a.m., to 10 a.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays. Houston officially opens the spring campaign on Feb. 18 against St. Edward's University at Burrough's Park in Tomball.
