HOUSTON - The University of Houston soccer team will open up its spring games at 2:30 p.m., Saturday against St. Edwards at Burroughs Park in Tomball.

The Cougars kicked off spring practice Feb. 6 and have been working to improve on the individual level.

"We've been working on individual development," head coach Susan Bush said. "There are certain positions that we're asking kids to do things that we didn't see in the fall."

The Hilltoppers finished with a 15-3-1 overall record last season and qualified for a berth in the Division II NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive year.

"St. Edwards is one of the best Division II schools in the country," Bush said. "They recruit really good players out of Texas, so we're expecting it to be very competitive."

The obvious goal for Houston will be to win the game but more importantly for the Cougars they are just ready to get back on the pitch and continue to refine their skills.

"It's a great time to experiment with some things we're thinking about doing in the fall," Bush said. "We're just looking forward to playing somebody else rather than ourselves."

Following Saturday's game the Cougars will have another week of practice before hosting Navarro Junior College, at 1:30 p.m., Feb 26, at Carl Lewis Field.
