HOUSTON -- Houston Soccer signees and incoming freshmen Margo McEntire and Kelsey Thein were selected among the nation's best to participate in the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) Player Development program, representing two regions earlier this month.
The duo represented their respective regions as McEntire, a defender, (Georgetown, Texas/Club: Texans) was named to Team Texas, while Thein (Las Vegas, Nev./Club: Heat FC) represented the Mountain region out of Las Vegas, Nev.
"This is a great opportunity for our incoming players and we want to wish them all the best during their development programs," head coach Chris Pfau said. "This is a great way to represent the University of Houston and it ultimately shows the type of player and the talent level we are bringing into this program."
The purpose of the Player Development Program (PDPs) is to identify top players from each conference at multiple age groups as well as provide a developmental experience, while rewarding and recognizing individual achievement.
MORE ABOUT ELITE CLUBS NATIONAL LEAGUE PLAYER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS
Player Development Programs (PDPs) are regionally-based identification and development programs within US Club Soccer's id2 Program. PDPs are operated in conjunction with elite leagues sanctioned by US Club Soccer.
Players are selected for the Player Development Programs based on their performance in ECNL competitions and by recommendations from ECNL coaches. The ECNL will be hosting nine PDP events across the country between February and May 2014, providing an opportunity for top players in every ECNL club.
