Houston Soccer Releases 2014 Schedule

HOUSTON — Houston Soccer and third-year head coach Chris Pfau have announced the Cougars’ 2014 schedule Friday afternoon, highlighted by nine regular-season home games, five of which will be played representing the American Athletic Conference.
Of the 10 home games to be played on campus at Carl Lewis Field, nine will fall during regular-season play with one as an exhibition game on August 17 vs. Sam Houston State.
Houston will kick off the year with back-to-back exhibition games as the Cougars will travel to Fort Worth, Texas to take on TCU at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 13. They will then host Sam Houston State on Sunday, August 17 at 7 p.m. – both as tune-up matches in preparation for the season opener vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday, Aug. 22 at 7 p.m.
A quick trip to Lake Charles, La. to face McNeese State on Sunday, Aug. 24 at 1 p.m. will lead into a 1 p.m. kickoff vs. North Texas on Friday, August 29, allowing Houston fans the opportunity to attend the Cougars’ first game in the Houston Football Stadium, slated for 8 p.m. vs. UTSA.
September will open with a trip to the state of Georgia to play back-to-back, non-conference road matches against Georgia (Athens, Ga. - Friday, Sept. 5 – 6 pm CT) and Mercer (Macon, Ga. – Sunday, Sept. 7 – 12 pm CT).
Following that trip, the Cougars will return home to Carl Lewis Field for the final two non-conference home games, which will fall on Friday, Sept. 12 (vs. Houston Baptist – 7 pm) and Sunday, Sept. 14 (vs. Utah State – 1 pm). The Houston-Utah State game will serve as Senior Day.
The Cougars will take on Louisiana-Lafayette on Friday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. in Lafayette, La. before opening American Athletic Conference play the next week at home.
Houston, in just its second season in The American, will begin league action with SMU on Thursday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. at home. Moving into October, Houston will travel to USF (Friday, Oct. 3 – 6:30 pm CT) and UCF (Sunday, Oct. 6 – 12 pm CT) and then will welcome UConn (Thursday, Oct. 9 – 7 pm) and Temple (Sunday, Oct. 12 – 1 pm) to Houston.
The final month of regular-season play will continue with trips to East Carolina (Thursday, Oct. 16 – 6 pm CT) and Cincinnati (Sunday, Oct. 19 – 12 pm CT), before wrapping up the final two games by hosting Memphis (Thursday, Oct. 23 – 7 pm) and Tulsa (Sunday, Oct. 26 – 1 pm).
The American Athletic Conference Soccer Championship will begin with the First Round on Oct. 31, followed by the Quarterfinals on Nov. 2 at select sites. The Semifinals round and the Championship game will be played in Tampa, Fla.
