HOUSTON — In her second season with the Houston Soccer program, Suzie Grech has been promoted and named associate head coach, announced Wednesday afternoon by second-year head coach Chris Pfau.

"Suzie has been very valuable to the growth of our soccer program over the past year,” Pfau said. “Her head coaching experience has allowed her to come in and make an immediate impact on and off the field. I am very excited to name her as an associate head coach this season as we head into a new conference.”

Elevated to associate head coach, Grech served as an assistant for the Cougars during the 2012 season after being hired June 25, 2012.

“It is an honor to work for the University of Houston and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue my career alongside the incredible staff, student-athletes, and administration as the associate head coach,” Grech said.

“Houston is a special place with great people and I am excited about the direction in which head coach Chris Pfau is leading this program as we enter the American Athletic Conference,” Grech said. “I consider myself very fortunate to work for a head coach of his caliber. I would like to thank Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Mack Rhoades, Senior Woman Administrator DeJuena Chizer, and coach Pfau for entrusting me with this position."

    2012 SEASON at HOUSTON
In her first season with the Cougars in 2012, Grech helped lead Houston to a 7-9-3 overall record and the program's first Conference USA postseason berth since the 2010 season.

Grech, an exceptional goalkeeper in her playing days, worked directly with the keepers in 2012, and helped junior Cami Koski pitch four shutouts to bring her career total to 15 – a total which is now tops for any goalkeeper in Cougar history.

Grech helped her team make four NCAA appearances and earned Second Team All-Big Ten and All-Great Lakes Region honors.

The Philadelphia, native also participated internationally for Spain, where she earned a silver medal at the European Women's U-18 Championships in 1999 and 2000.

Grech received her bachelor's degree in physical education in 2005 from Michigan and received her master's degree in sports administration from Marshall in 2006. She also holds a United States Federation (USSF) National "B" License and has a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) advanced national goalkeeping diploma.
