HOUSTON - The University of Houston Department of Intercollegiate Athletics continued to receive recognition when 145 student-athletes were named to the American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team for the 2013-14 school year.

Student-athletes from the Baseball, Softball, Men's Basketball, Men's Golf, Women's Golf, Women's Soccer, Women's Swimming and Diving, Women's Tennis, Men's Track and Field/Cross Country, Women's Track and Field/Cross Country and Volleyball teams earned All-Academic honors for their hard work in the classroom.

Each institution may annually submit an unlimited number of nominations. All nominees must have participated in an American-sponsored sport, attained a minimum GPA of 3.0 for the preceding academic year and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters of academic work with a total of 18-semester or 27-quarter credits.

The Men's Track and Field team had the most All-Academic Team selections (28) while Women's Tennis and Women's Golf had 100 percent of its student-athletes listed. Women's Swimming and Diving followed with 20 of the 24 student-athletes receiving All-Academic honors. Baseball and Women's Soccer both had 18 student-athletes named followed by Women's Track & Field with 17 student-athletes.

Softball had 14 out of the 15 student-athletes receive All-Academic status while eight Men's Golf members were also included on the list.

Houston Athletics has continued to shine in academics. The Men's Cross Country and Women's Tennis team were awarded the NCAA's Public Recognition Award earlier this spring. This award is given to teams in the top 10 percent of their respective sports and was the third consecutive year for Women's Tennis to receive the honor.

As a whole, the Athletics Department once again posted record academic marks for the spring 2014 semester. Student-athletes from all 17 sports programs set the UH Athletics record for cumulative grade point average after the spring semester with an overall GPA of 2.88 after recording the best spring semester mark in department history at 2.82. Eleven of Houston's 17 sport programs carried a cumulative GPA of 3.02 or better.

In addition, a department-best 91 student-athletes were named to the University of Houston's Dean's List, while UH student-athletes passed an average of 13.8 hours per semester, the second-highest total in Houston history.
