    HOUSTON -

Houston Soccer junior Sydnie Green was named to the 2014 College Sports Madness Preseason All-Conference Second Team, Thursday.

"That's a great accomplishment, especially after being able to take a year off (after transferring) and to come back and play the sport that I love, and to be able to get the honors that I did," Green said. "I had a really good season last year, so it's a great honor. I'm really appreciative. Hopefully, I can work to better things, and that's what I'm trying to do this year."

Green was among the elite players honored in The American Athletic Conference on the expectation of significant contribution in the upcoming season. The defender was one of just four at her position named to the Second Team.

In 2013, Green logged more minutes than any other Houston player (1,409) and was one of just two to start in all 16 contests. The Corona, Calif. native helped lead the Cougars to all three of their shutouts and turned in a .750 (3-of-4) shot-on-goal percentage.

"It's great. She transferred in last year, and for her to come in and have an impact like she did was incredible," head coach Chris Pfau said. "Early in the season, especially against San Diego State when we tied them, she showed what she could do and dominated. That continued on through the season and she gave us leadership and experience back there. She set the tone for us."
