Houston, Texas - At home in the heat and humidity of August in Houston, Cougar athletes come rushing in to begin their preseason. As freshman find their way around campus for the first time, they will join this team on Wednesday for the first practice of the year. Women's soccer will hit the field tomorrow, ready to begin a season that could be for the record books.
Soccer is coming off an outstanding year in 2000 under now second year coach Bill Solberg. The Cougars finished the season with a winning record and hope to see more success during 2001 season. This highly-talented team returns ten seniors and brings in five freshmen to add to the group.
Solberg has high hopes for the 2001 squad. "We have a great opportunity with this team (this) year, "Solberg stated, "for ten of the girls this will be their last year of soccer at UH. I know that they will be extremely motivated to have the best season in the history of the program."
What a historical season it could be. Not only are these ten ladies special because they are seniors, but they were the class of freshman that began the Cougar soccer program. With hard work their legacy will live for many years in the record books.
