    HOUSTON --
University of Houston Soccer will embark on its 2013 campaign when the Cougars travel to take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Friday at Dr. Jack Dugan Family Soccer & Track Stadium at 5 p.m.
Houston wraps up its third and final week of preseason, which included a 1-0 exhibition win on the road at Northwestern State. The Cougars are led by second-year head coach Chris Pfau.
"Everyone is anxious to get the season started and I thought we had a very good preseason," Pfau said. "I really like the way the team is training and the effort we have put in throughout this preseason. I am very excited to watch us play Friday afternoon."
The Cougars will open the season for the second straight year away from home.
"This will be a good test for us on the road being that Texas A&M-Corpus Christi will be excited to open up their new stadium and brand new team."
Of the 31 rostered Houston student-athletes, the Cougars return 20 players from the 2012 squad, led by 11 seniors.
Senior goal keeper Cami Koski (First Team) and senior midfielders Kylie Cook (Second Team) and Jasmine Martinez (Second Team) highlight the returning class as the trio was recently named to the CollegeSportsMadness.com's Preseason All-Conference teams.
Martinez is coming off a strong junior season where she led Houston in offensive scoring with eight goals, 22 shots on goal and 36 points.  She went on to score the game-winning goal in an exciting road win over Arizona State and managed to register a .611 shot on goal percentage. Martinez currently ranks third all-time in Houston Soccer history with three penalty kicks made.
Koski earned Second Team All-Conference USA honors in 2012 and enters her final season ranked first all-time in Houston Soccer history in shutouts (15) and goals/against average (1.07), while ranking second in saves (209), save percentage (.800), wins (19), games played (52), minutes (4,612), and games started (47) in the net.
Cook was named a Third Team All-Conference USA performer last season and returns for her final season ranked third all-time in Houston Soccer history in penalty kicks made (3), fifth in assists (10), ninth in minutes played (4,420) and 10th in assists/game (0.17).
After posting a 7-8-3 record in his first season at Houston, Pfau and the Cougars welcome 11 newcomers including six freshmen and five junior college and Division I transfers to this year's squad - who look to make immediate impacts.
2013 will mark the Inaugural Season for the Islanders.
Shanna Caldwell was chosen as the program's first head coach after four seasons as the recruiting coordinator and first assistant coach at the University of Akron, where she worked under Pfau.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi will compete in 2013 with 17 incoming freshmen and eight transfers.
This will be the first meeting between the two schools and will serve as the inaugural game for the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi program.
