HOUSTON – The American Athletic Conference announced the winners of the league’s weekly honors for the week ending Aug. 20, tabbing freshman, forward Jazmin Grant as Rookie of the Week.
Grant put on a spectacular display in her first pair of games donning the red and white, racking up five points. The freshman tallied up one assist in Houston’s 3-0 shutout over Texas Southern and scored a pair of goals in the opening ten minutes of its 4-1 win over Northern Arizona.
“We knew coming in that Jazmin had the potential to be a very dynamic player with the ability to score points,” said Head Coach Diego Bocanegra. “I think every day and every week she’s getting more comfortable and it showed in both games. We expect her to continue growing and as she grows we’re excited that she is going to be a force for the next four years.”
This marks the first Rookie of the Week award for Houston since former Cougar, Sydney George, won in 2013.
Houston will head out on the road for the remainder of August, starting with a matchup with Cal-State Northridge Aug. 24 in Los Angeles.
