HOUSTON - The Houston Cougar soccer team returns home to host North Texas, Friday Aug. 29, at 1 p.m. All fans attending the game will receive half-price admission upon presenting a valid ticket to Friday night's season opening football game at brand new TDECU Stadium.
"I am excited about Friday's game to see where we are as a team, and what we need to improve on," head coach Chris Pfau said. "North Texas is always a top team in the region. They are well coached and some great players."
Houston (1-0-1) got started the right way on opening weekend with a double-overtime scoreless draw in its season opener against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday, and a 2-0 victory on the road at McNeese State in Lake Charles on Sunday.
Senior forward Kayla Walker scored both goals while junior Lexa Green added the team's lone assist from the win against the Cowgirls. Junior transfer goalkeeper Jordan Brown was solid between the posts for the Cougars earning two shutouts while stopping seven shots in 200 total minutes played. Brown's efforts from opening weekend were enough to earn her American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week honors.
ABOUT THE MEAN GREEN
North Texas (2-0-0) opened their 2014 regular season with home wins against Texas Southern and Oregon State. The Mean Green hit the road for the first time this season for a pair of matches against Houston and Lamar.
Sophomore Rachel Holden leads the Mean Green offense with two goals and four points this season. Holden owns a .625 shot on goal percentage (5-8) and has each of the team's two game-winning goals. Junior goalkeeper Jackie Kerestine turned in a solid performance in goal on opening weekend earning two shutout victories while stopping four shots in 180 minutes.

Following their match against North Texas, Houston will head east for a pair of games in the state of Georgia next weekend. The Cougars face off against Georgia on Friday, Sept. 5 at 6 p.m., in Athens, Ga. Houston will the head south to Macon, Ga., to take on Mercer Sunday, Sept. 7 at noon.
The Cougars fell to Georgia 2-0 at home in 2013. The two squads have met twice in school history with Georgia owning wins in both contests. Houston and Mercer will face off for the first time in 2014.
