HOUSTON, Texas - The University of Houston women's soccer team won in impressive fashion as they defeated the UL-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns by a score of 7-0 Sunday afternoon at John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium. The win marks Houston's first win at home for the 2000 season.
It was all about playing as a team Sunday afternoon when three different players netted goals for the Cougars. Seven goals in a game sets a record for Cougar soccer. In their 1999 season Houston scored five goals three times versus Auburn, Louisville and Tulane.
Houston scored early when freshman forward Nicole Aubuchon found the net at 16:38. Sophomore midfielder Ashley Fortenberry was credited with the assist. Then junior forward Kristen Hogan knocked in her third goal of the season just minutes later at the 19:56 mark. Junior Jennifer Allen assisted with Hogan's goal. At 23:58 Aubuchon scored her second goal on the afternoon with an assist from Kara Bullinger.
The Cougars continued to dominate in the second half scoring a total of four goals, including two goals from sophomore Lindsey Beiriger and another two goals from Kristen Hogan. With three goals on the afternoon, Hogan recorded her first collegiate hat trick.
"This game was good as a confidence builder, but there are some good teams coming up in Conference USA," head coach Bill Solberg said. "Today they came out with the attitude to win and they did. We totally turned it on."
The Lady Cougars begin C-USA action on the road Friday, Sept. 15 at 4 p.m. versus Southern Miss and Sunday, Sept. 17 at 2 p.m. versus Tulane.
