DALLAS - Shelby Scott (Mesquite, Texas/North Mesquite HS) was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week Monday, on the heels of a double-overtime tie with regionally ranked LSU Sunday.

Scott, a junior goalkeeper, is the first Cougar to win the weekly defensive award since Robin Cate took home the honor on Sept. 4, 2001.

She led Houston to a pair of shutouts, including an impressive 0-0 double overtime tie against LSU. The Tigers entered the game ranked fourth nationally in scoring.

Scott made a career-high 11 saves on the day and was under all-out siege for most of the afternoon as LSU peppered the Houston defense with 32 shot attempts. Scott made several diving stops, including coming off her line numerous times to end breakaway chances.

She also was credited with three saves in an overtime win over Grambling State. Scott, who is nearing UH's all-time wins mark, has allowed only one goal in almost 400 minutes of play this season, earning three shutouts. UH is 3-0-1 and off to the best start in program history.

The Cougars return to action next weekend, facing a pair of tough road matches with No. 6 Texas at 7 p.m. CDT Friday and Texas State at 1 p.m. Sunday.
