PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- After knocking off No. 21 Cincinnati and securing a senior day win over ECU, freshman forward Jazmin Grant and junior goalkeeper Rachel Estopare earn American Athletic Conference Weekly honors.
Grant made her presence known in all facets of the Houston offense, closing out the weekend with one goal and three assists. The freshman dished out her first assist on Mia Brascia's game winning goal against No. 21 Cincinnati, helping Houston secure its first win over a ranked opponent under Head Coach Diego Bocanegra. Grant came back on Sunday and scored Houston's second goal of the day in a 4-1 win over ECU, assisting both Selena Peters and Brascia on Houston's first and second goals.
This is Grant's second career weekly honor, after being named American Rookie of the Week during the opening weekend of the 2017 season.
"Jazmin has been on the verge of a scoring breakout for a few games," said Bocanegra. "She scored two goals against UConn which gave her tons of confidence going into this past weekend. I thought this weekend was even better and the best is yet to come. I'm excited for her."
Estopare had a productive weekend in goal for Houston, notching 13 saves in 165 minutes. The junior, only allowed two goals this past weekend and stifled a Cincinnati offense that has posted three or more goals five times this season.
This is Estopare's second weekly honor this season and fourth of her career.
"Rachel has been great at making big saves all season and that showed repeatedly in the Cincinnati game," said Bocanegra. "She made several timely saves at the end of the first half that kept them scoreless heading into the break. Just as important, her distribution has been fantastic which gives us the ability to keep possession and build out of the back."
Houston will gear up for a pivotal match in Dallas with conference tournament implications, slated for Oct. 26 at 7 p.m.
