Houston Student-Athletes to be Honored with Degrees

Oct. 26, 2012

HOUSTON - The University of Houston soccer team clinched the eighth and final spot in the Conference USA Championship after Marshall suffered a 1-0 loss at East Carolina on Thursday evening. The Cougars (7-7-3, 3-3-3 C-USA) secured a spot in the postseason for the first time since the 2010 season.

"I'm very excited for the team on this great accomplishment," Head Coach Chris Pfau said. "They have worked so hard on going 3-1-1 over the last five matches."

This is Pfau's fourth consecutive trip to the postseason as a head coach and first at Houston.

CHAMPIONSHIP FORMAT
The C-USA Championship is a single-elimination tournament with the winner gaining the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.

Houston will compete as the eighth seed and play the No. 1 seed at noon, Oct. 31 in El Paso, Texas. The No. 1 seed has yet to be determined, but the Cougars will play Colorado College, Rice, or UCF.

A LOOK AHEAD
The Cougars will host cross-town rival Rice at 7 p.m., Friday. The four seniors will be honored prior to the start of Friday's home finale. Recognized for their on- and off-the-field honors, seniors Kaci Bush, Katelyn Rhodes, Ciara Slayton, and Morgan Vela will be introduced with their families in a special pregame ceremony.

The match-up between Houston and Southern Miss has been cancelled.
