Peters and Grant Earn All-Conference Honors

Oct. 31, 2017

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – After helping the Houston Soccer team to its best record since 2010, senior forward Selena Peters and freshman forward Jazmin Grant close out the 2017 season with All-Conference Honors.

“I’m excited for Selena and Jazmin” said Head Coach Diego Bocanegra. “They were a huge part of our attack and were most dangerous when they worked together on the front line.  Leading the team in scoring with 16 and 15 points respectively, these honors are well deserved”.

Peters made 14 starts for the Cougars and appeared in 17 matches, earning a spot on the Second Team All-Conference. The Houston native led the team in scoring, recording 16 points off of seven goals and two assists. Peters closed out her career at Houston tied for fourth all-time in goals with 16 and tied for sixth all-time in assists with nine.

“Selena was one of our most versatile attackers”, Bocanegra continued.  “Over the course of the season, we played her in every attacking position and she was often the most dangerous player on the field”.

Grant capped off a fabulous freshman season with five goals and five assists, earning Second Team All-Conference accolades. Grant was a steady force on the Houston offense, scoring a goal or assist in three of last four matches of the season. The Atascocita, Texas native is a two-time American Rookie of the Week and appeared in 13 matches with 11 starts.

“Jazmin used her speed and athleticism to get in behind the opposing team’s defense”, said Bocanegra. “Throughout the year she improved on the technical aspects of her game and became someone that could create a scoring chance at any moment in the game”.

Grant is the second Houston player to earn All-Rookie Team honors since Houston joined the American and the third in program history. This the first year since 2013 that Houston has had players earn Second Team All-Conference accolades.
