Cincinnati Defeats Houston, 4-2
Bearcats come up big in the second half
ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Cincinnati scored three goals late in the second half to down Houston, 4-2 in Conference USA Tournament action tonight. The Bearcats advance to the semi-final round and will face the winner of Saint Louis and Tulane.
Michelle Burke opened up the scoring after putting a goal in the back of the net for Cincinnati on an assist from Jen Meiners. Houston then did some scoring of its own with goals from Kristen Hogan and Jennifer Allen to take a 2-1 lead. "We started out sluggish, then we began to battle, " said Houston head coach Bill Solberg. "Mistakes took us out of the game." The Bearcats capitalized on those mistakes scoring three straight goals in a matter of seven minutes. Kim Jedlo, Kristina Wilson, and Ann Thomas were responsible for those goals. "I'm so proud of the way the players battled back," said Cincinnati head coach Meridy Glenn. "We had some young ladies step up and some veterans provide leadership. This was a good win for us."
Christy Hoffman led Cincinnati's defensive attack with six saves, while Houston's Susan Barra recorded four saves. "We kept the defensive pressure up throughout the match and I think that was the key, "said Glenn. "We made adjustments up front and it helped us to open up scoring opportunities late in the match."
