Soccer's Scott, Rodriguez Earn C-USA All-Academic Honors

IRVING, Texas --University of Houston senior goalkeeper Shelby Scott was named to the Conference USA All-Academic First Team, while sophomore midfielder Islara Rodriguez earned second-team honors, the league office announced on Wednesday. Scott made 17 starts in net this season, notching six shutouts and a 1.26 goals against average. She leaves Houston as the program's all-time leader in wins (20), shutouts (14) and saves (304). Scott has maintained a 3.92 cumulative GPA and is a psychology major in UH's Honors College. This marks the second major postseason academic honor for Scott, who was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 6 First Team for the second-consecutive year on Oct. 30. Rodriguez earns her first career appearance on the C-USA All-Academic Second Team. She played in 18 matches for the Cougars this season, making 11 starts. The Houston native is a playmaker in the midfielder, finishing the year with a goal, an assist and in fourth on the club in overall scoring. Also a member of UH's Honors College, Rodriguez has posted a cumulative GPA of 3.82 as a business major.
