Maleeya Coleman enters her first season with the University of Houston heading into the 2012-13 season. Coleman serves as the graduate assistant coach and oversees the equipment, assists with pitching and helps coordinate the hitting and pitching charts.
A native of Sugar Land, Texas and high school graduate of Kempner, Coleman attended Kent State on an athletic and academic scholarship where she had great success in the classroom and inside the softball diamond.
Coleman was on the Dean's list five of eight semesters and earned NFCA Scholar Athlete, MAC Honorable Mention and graduated with a degree in biological chemistry. Currently Coleman is pursuing her masters of science in chemistry at UH.
While at Kent State, Coleman served as a relief pitcher making 32 appearances over her career. A stand out for Kempner while in high school, Coleman earned All-District honors in three straight years while helping her team to the district and area championships.
