HOUSTON --The University of Houston softball team lost to Texas State, 2-0 in the final game of the Marriott Houston Classic. The Cougars are now 4-3 for the season.

Texas State put the first run on the board in the bottom of the second inning when on two outs Taylor Hall hit a single to left field scoring Kristina Tello. Sophomore Leftfielder Casey Willow threw the ball in and was able to get Alex Newton out to end the inning.

The one scoring opportunity the Cougars had came in the top of the fourth when freshman Melissa Gregson singled to advance senior Katie Bush to third who reached base on walk. Senior Christa Raley grounded into a fielder's choice and Bush would be out home. Senior Haley Valis would strikeout ending the scoring threat.

Texas State scored again in the bottom of the sixth. Chandler Hall hit a double and Tello singled to score Tamara Keller, who pinch ran for Hall.

There were only two hits during the game, one from Gregson, and the other from Willow.

After three innings, Amanda Crabtree came in to pitch for Baillie Lott, who allowed four hits and one run.

Crabtree struck out one, allowing one run and three hits.

Houston was unable to score and they were shutout for the first time this season and the first time since May 24, 2008 when the Cougars lost to Louisiana-Lafayette in the final game of the Super Regional.

The Cougars' first game against Oklahoma State at 3 p.m. was cancelled.

Houston will play Baylor on Wednesday at the Cougar Softball Stadium at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
