HOUSTON - The Crowne Plaza Classic ended Sunday afternoon at the Cougar Softball Field with the Houston falling in a 1-0 game to the Texas State Bobcats.

The final day of the Crowne Plaza Classic also saw No. 11 Baylor come away with an 11-1 win over North Carolina to claim the Classic's title with a 4-1 record in the tournament. Kentucky defeated Minnesota 6-4 in a 10-inning grudge match, before Houston lost to Texas State.

Against the Bobcats, Texas State's Katie Ann Trahan went the distance to shutout the Cougars and pick up the win. Trahan threw nine strikeouts, with no runs and one hit, while walking two batters.

Junior Crystal Briscoe recorded the Houston loss as she logged five and two-thirds innings, giving up one run on six hits with five strikeouts.

Both teams were held scoreless through the first five inning of play, but with no one on, no outs and no score in the top of the sixth inning, the Bobcats logged a one-run homer to put the only run of the game on the board.

Houston managed to break up the Bobcats' no-hitter campaign when sophomore Jamie Adams recorded her first hit of the season in the bottom of the sixth. But a strikeout by junior Lindsay Vanover and a fly out to right field by Jenny Johnson, ended the inning.

The Cougars host their third tournament of the season beginning next weekend at the Cougar Softball Field with Northern Illinois, Central Connecticut and Manhattan making the trip to Houston.
