Feb. 20, 2007
WACO - Ashley Monceaux went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, while Lisa Ferguson hurled a three-hit shutout as No. 16 Baylor defeated the University of Houston softball team 5-0 in the opening game of a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at Getterman Stadium on the Baylor campus. Ferguson carried a perfect game into the fourth inning until Katie Bush knocked a single that fell between the BU second baseman and right fielder. Miriam Romero reached on an infield single and stole her way to third base. She scored on a bunt single by Maritza Martinez. Another RBI-single from Monceaux made it 3-0. The Bears tacked on two insurance runs in the sixth inning as Tiffany and Nicole Wesley provided RBIs. Jessica Valis extended her hitting streak to 11 games with an infield single in the seventh inning. She is the only Cougar to hit safely in all 11 games this season. Game two of the doubleheader is set to begin at 6:10pm. Live stats from Getterman Stadium are available on UHCougars.com in addition to a webcast provided by BaylorBears.com
