SANTA BARBARA, CALIF. - The University of Houston softball program dropped a 3-1 decision to the University of San Diego (3-3) Friday morning on the second day of the Gaucho Classic. After committing a season-high number of errors in both games yesterday, the defense tightened up and didn't make a single mistake today. It wasn't enough as Houston (7-5) could only muster a single run off five hits. The Cougars tried to scrape by as they also took three hit by pitches but the rallies were cut short as Houston left seven runners on base. Houston's lone run also came in the 5th inning off two hits. Kendra Cullum hit a lead off single and junior Holly Anderson drove her in with her first triple of the year to score the sophomore. Summer Groholski received her first loss of the season (3-1) as the freshman allowed five hits through the first two innings. Sophomore Diedre Outon appeared in relief for Groholski and pitched the next four frames allowing only two hits. UP NEXT
