COLUMBUS, Ga.--The University of Houston softball team beats No. 6 Michigan, 3-2 in game two of the NFCA Leadoff Classic after rain cancels Houston's two games against No. 1 Alabama and No. 24 Ohio State. Houston will now play No. 24 Ohio State and No. 18 Northwestern on Sunday.

Freshman Melissa Gregson started off the bottom of the third inning hitting her fourth home run of the season to put the first run on the board for the Cougars.

After a scoreless inning, Gregson led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a walk, followed by a bunt by sophomore Katy Beth Sherman.

On two outs, senior Elaina Nordstrom walked to load the bases. Senior Laurie Wagner came to the plate and connected on a two-out, two-run single to the right side to knock Gregson and Sherman in and to give the Cougars a 3-0 lead.

After the Wolverines rallied in the top of the seventh on no outs and loaded the bases, the Cougars made a pitching change to bring sophomore Amanda Crabtree in.

Crabtree walked Marley Powers to score Maggie Viefhaus. Bree Evans grounded out to Jessica Valis to knock the final Michigan run in and the Cougars would win after Crabtree struck out the final batter.

Sophomore Baillie Lott moves to 4-4 this season after striking out one, walking three and allowing only two runs on three hits.

Crabtree now has one save after striking out two and walking one.

Weather permitting, the Cougars will play Ohio State at 11 a.m. and Northwestern immediately following on Sunday.
