Houston Falls 11-4 to Alabama
March 1, 2014
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama seized momentum early in the evening game with six runs over the first three innings to improve to 15-3 on the year and 2-0 during the tournament.
The Crimson Tide (15-3) jumped out ahead 1-0 during their first turn at bat before Houston was able to tie the game at 1-1 during their turn at bat in the second inning. Haley Outon beat out an infield single to reach first base and advanced to third on Tiffani McKnight’s single to right center. A passed ball allowed Outon to score.
Alabama answered Houston’s score during their next turn at bat putting up four runs and never looked back.
McKnight, who batted 3-for-4 in the game, added another run to the scoreboard in the fourth inning with an RBI single, driving in Haley Outon for her second run scored of the game.
The Cougars added two more runs in the sixth inning when McKnight started Houston’s last rally attempt with a single to start the inning off on the right foot. Houston loaded the bases as the next four batters all reached safely and Kendra Cullum drew a walk to allow McKnight to score from third.
The tide didn’t turn Houston’s way as Alabama answered with a two-run outing of their own in the bottom of the sixth to post the final score.
Summer Groholski (3-1) received her first loss of the year lasting 1.2 innings. Julana Shrum and Diedre Outon combined to finish the game for UH.
