HOUSTON - The University of Houston softball team, despite short preparation time, mustered out a 3-1 victory against the Monmouth University Muhawks with a solid outing by Amanda Crabtree and a timely hit by Jennifer Klinkert at Cougar Softball Stadium Tuesday afternoon.

Houston improves to 8-9 on the season as the Muhawks drop to 1-5. Crabtree receives the win with her one-hitter. The junior pitcher allowed a mere one run off one hit and collected 10 strikeouts in seven innings.

Klinkert went 1-for-2, driving in two RBI in the first frame. The first baseman's double to right center advanced Ashleigh Jones and Mary Tyler Dobson to home plate after the duo reached base with a pair of bunts.

Tiffany Galletti scored the final Cougar run of the game in the second inning. The junior right fielder walked and advanced to second on Angela Spittler's sacrifice bunt. Galletti shifted to third on Lauren Strickland's out, and Jones' single down the middle sent her home.

Tish Derer scored Monmouth's lone run of the game in the sixth courtesy of Alexa Ferrara's sacrifice fly.
