Final Stats

HOUSTON - The University of Houston softball team dropped the opening game of a double header to hot hitting Southern Miss Saturday afternoon 14-0 at the Cougar Softball Complex. The loss dropped Houston to 24-12 on the season and 3-1 in Conference USA play.

The 14-0 loss is the margin of defeat in Houston's four year history and marks only the second time a Cougar opponent has scored as many as 14 runs. The only other time Houston has given up 14 runs was in the first ever game played when they lost to Arkansas 14-10 in 2001.

After jumping out to a 4-0 lead through the first four innings the Golden Eagles jumped on Houston for 10 runs in the fifth on seven hits while taking advantage of three Cougar errors.

Jessica Holaway picked up the win for Southern Miss pitching a complete game four-hitter, improving to 7-5 on the season and helping her team improve to 16-17 for the season and 4-3 in C-USA play.

Crystal Briscoe took the loss for Houston, giving up six earned runs on 10 hits while striking out nine Southern Miss batters. The loss drops her record to 6-6 on the year. Offensively for the Cougars Brooke Johnson was two for two with a single and a double.
