    HOUSTON - Candi Kloecker fired her first career no-hitter as the University of Houston softball team bounced back with an 8-0 five-inning rout of UTEP in game two of a Conference USA weekend series Saturday at the Cougar Softball Stadium.

    Kloecker struck out 12 batters against three walks as no runner UTEP player reached third base. The 12 strikeouts were the second-most this season for the junior right-hander as she improved to 8-6 on the season.

    Laura Durham got the Houston offense going in the second inning with a triple off the right field fence. Durham scored the game's first run as UTEP second baseman Sara Hernandez's rely throw went into the Miner dugout.

    Jamie Adams extended her hitting streak to five games cranking her first home run of the season to make it 2-0.

    Angel Shamblin pushed the Houston advantage to 4-0 with a two-run single in the third inning scoring Jessica Valis and Katie Bush.

    The Cougars continued its offensive assault in the fourth inning as Bush knocked a RBI-single and capitalized on another UTEP error going ahead 6-0. Haley Valis added the finishing touches with a two-run single for the final margin of 8-0.

     

     

    Houston and UTEP will conclude its weekend series with a rubber game Sunday at 1pm. UH students get in free by showing their Cougar 1 Card at the gate.

Valis has scored a run in 22 of her last 33 games and in six of her last eight contests ... The Shiner, Texas native has drawn a walk in eight of 11 Conference USA games ... She also added her team-best 16th stolen base in the first inning and has added a stolen base in three of her last four games ... Katie Bush has hit safely and scored a run in her last three games ... Bush is the Elaina Nordstrom has reached base in 33 of 37 games but had her consecutive RBI-streak snapped at five games ... Laura Durham became the fifth Cougar to reach the 30-hit mark.
