HOUSTON -- Junior Laurie Wagner hit a grand slam as the University of Houston softball split a Wednesday doubleheader against Baylor at Cougar Softball Stadium. Houston won the first game 8-3 and falling in the second game 7-3.

The ninth-ranked Cougars move to 38-6 overall this season and 9-4 in the all-time series with the Bears.

Wagner opened game one for the Cougars hitting a grand slam, her 13th home run of the season. Juniors Jessica Valis and Katie Bush put the first runners on base off back-to-back singles and freshman Jennifer Klinkert loaded the bases after being walked.

Houston would put up for more run on the board in the fourth inning. Two of those runs came from Wagner's 14th home run this season. The 14 home runs she has this season are currently tied for second in the single-season record books. She needs three more home runs to tie Kristen Glowacz' (2005) single-season record of 17.

Junior Elaina Nordstrom also hit a RBI double and Klinkert scored Nordstrom on a single to cap the scoring in the inning.

Houston recorded 13 hits in the game, continuing a streak of four-straight games with double-digit hits.

Senior Angel Shamblin pitched the complete game moving to 23-2. She had nine hits, three runs and six strikeouts.

Game Two- Houston 3, Baylor 7
Baylor snapped a 21-game home win streak this season, defeating Houston 7-3 in the second game of the double-header.

Houston was held to just seven hits and three runs.

In the third inning, Bush scored to give Houston their first run after Klinkert hit a double to bring her in. Nordstrom also added a run for the Cougars after a Wagner single brought her home.

Houston would be able to put up one more run in the bottom of the seventh inning when Nordstrom hit her 11th home run this season but it would not be enough to get the win.

Freshman Baillie Lott pitched the complete game. She is 6-3 in the circle this season. She allowed 12 hits, seven runs and had five strikeouts.

Houston will head to Tulsa April 19-20 for a three-game series against Tulsa in a Conference USA series. The Cougars will then return home to host a single game against Sam Houston State on April 23, a rescheduled game that was rained out on Feb. 20.
