HOUSTON - The University of Houston softball team outscored Texas Southern 12-4 Tuesday evening at Cougar Softball Stadium. Ten Cougars registered a run and Melissa Gregson drove in half of those to claim their 14th straight victory over TSU.

Houston (28-18) pounced on the Lady Tigers (23-14) in the second inning as they batted around the lineup en route to an 8-0 advantage. Haley Outon scored twice in the inning with a lead off walk followed by two stolen bases. In her next at bat, the base running came at her leisure as she delivered a two-run homer.

It was the 15th home run of the year for Outon as she tied Jennifer Klinkert (2008) for the fourth most by a Cougar in a single season.

Klinkert would knock Outon in with her team-leading 11th double of the year in the inning. Klinkert came around to home in company with Sydney Gerbracht on Jennifer Hooker's single to stretch the score to 4-0.

Holly Anderson and Ashleigh Jones crossed the plate on Gregson's two-RBI single before Outon's blast capped the inning.

Summer Groholski (7-4) earned the win for Houston and threw the complete game giving up eight hits and four runs.

Texas Southern scored two runs in the third off the freshman before Houston extended the lead to 12-2 in the bottom half of the inning.

Kelly Lindley led off the scoring with a line drive laced to left field for her first base hit of the year. Following Hooker's sac bunt, Anderson drove in Lindley with a single.

Ashleigh Jones moved Anderson around to third with an infield single followed by her team-leading 19th steal of the season. Jones went 2-for-2 in the game with two runs scored and an RBI.

Gregson then hit an opposite-field homerun to Houston their final run total.

TSU added two runs in the fifth inning before the run-rule victory was claimed by Houston 12-4.

All 12 batters used by Houston reached base with Outon, Gregson, Jones and Holly Anderson scoring twice.
