Houston, Texas - The University of Houston softball team received a solid performance from freshman pitcher Jenny Johnson and used the strength of four hits to post a 2-0 Conference USA win over UAB on Sunday afternoon at Cougar Softball Stadium in Houston.

With the victory, the Cougars claimed the three-game weekend series 2-1 and improve its conference record to 10-10 before heading into the Conference USA Tournament next week.

Houston scored both of its runs in the bottom of the first inning when Ali McDougall and Leslie Seay came in on a UAB fielding error. Seay was red-hot for the Cougars as she went 2-for-2 on the day.

UH starting pitcher Jenny Johnson was steady from the very beginning, surrendering just four hits, striking out four and walking only two. The right-hander from Huntsville, Alabama recorded her ninth of the season.

The Cougars end the regular season 22-31 overall and 10-10 in conference UAB fell to 26-33 and 10-11 in league play.

Houston heads into the Conference USA Tournament currently in fifth place. The tournament, which is scheduled for May 10-12, will be held in Louisville, Kentucky.
