TULSA, Okla. - The University of Houston softball team fell 3-1 to Marshall in the Conference USA Softball Championship Saturday at the Collins Family Softball Complex. Houston concluded the regular season with a 40-18 record taking second during the C-USA season and tournament.

Marshall (35-20) won their first league title behind the arm of the C-USA Tournament MVP Andi Williamson (32-16). Houston's Katie St. Pierre (OF), Holly Anderson (IF) and Bailey Watts (P) were Houston's representatives to the All-Tournament Team.

Marshall took the 2-0 lead in the second inning coming off a Cougar error. A double down the right field line allowed the MU runner on first to get to third and then a throwing error on the relay throw home sailed into the third-base dugout, clearing the bases.

Houston answered in their next turn at bat cutting the lead in half in the top of the third. Katie St. Pierre took first with an infield single and advanced to second on a throwing error by Marshall. Haley Outon delivered a two-out single to score St. Pierre making the score 2-1.

Diedre Outon (12-7) started the game for the Cougars and took the loss after 3.1 innings of work. Outon struck out all six outs over the first two innings before being surrendering three consecutive hits leading to an insurance run for the Thundering Herd in the fourth inning.

Houston relievers, Summer Groholski and Bailey Watts, both entered the game in high-pressure situations with two runners in scoring position but were able to keep the bats at bay allowing Houston to remain in the game. Groholski threw 0.2 innings to close out the fourth inning before turning the ball over to Watts in the next frame. Watts entered the game in the fifth with zero outs and runners on second and third. After a fortuitous roll on a squeeze attempt went foul, Watts threw two inning of hitless ball but the Houston bats were unable to score runs. UH left eight runners on base.

Houston awaits their postseason fate with the NCAA Softball Selection Show airing live on ESPNU Sunday night at 9 p.m. The Houston Softball team will gather at the Buffalo Wild Wings on 9415 Broadway Street in Pearland, Texas to watch the show and fans are welcome to attend.
