GREENVILLE, N.C. -- The No. 2 seeded University of Houston Softball team fell 1-0 to No. 1 seed and 24th-ranked Tulsa in the title game of the 2017 American Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday afternoon at ECU Softball Complex.
With the decision, the Cougars close their season at 30-25, while the Golden Hurricane improve to 39-15. The second-place, regular-season finish and runner-up finish in The American Championship under first-year Head Coach Kristin Vesely are the program’s highest finishes as members of The American.
Sophomore Savannah Heebner took the loss in a pitcher’s duel to fall to 15-11 in the circle for the season. The native of Sedalia, Colo., surrendered just one run on four hits while walking two and striking out five.
Cougars Heebner, Barker, Maya Thomas and Crumpton were named to The American All-Tournament Team.
1st | Tulsa plated one run in the bottom of the first inning on a leadoff walk, sacrifice bunt and double.
