    The University of Houston softball teams run in the Conference USA Tournament came to a close Sunday morning with a 4-2 loss in the tournament final to No. 4 seed DePaul at Ulmer Stadium in Louisville, Ky.

    The Blue Demons put up two runs early in the title game as Linda Secka led off in the first frame with a single to right field Sarah Martz reached on a bunt single and both runners advanced on a passed ball. After an intentional walk to Saskia Roberson, Sarah Douglas laid a bunt down the first base line, reached first and plated Secka. Martz scored the second run on a sacrifice fly from Jenny Doezie to give DePaul a quick 2-0 lead.

    The Cougars put together a two-out rally in the third to even things up when with two down; Lindsay Durham and Kim Nesloney were both walked by Martz. Jamie Adams then cranked out a two-RBI double to left center to tie the game at 2-2.

    The Blue Demons regained the lead in the top of the fourth when catcher Sara Polensky knocked in shortstop Sara Bandauski on a bunt single. Douglas added another run for DePaul when she notched her second RBI of the game with a single to center field.

    Crystal Briscoe (12-10) took the loss for the Cougars giving up three earned runs on seven hits in four and two third innings, as UH dropped to 38-23 on the season.

    The second place finish is the highest finish for the Cougars in the C-USA Tournament and the 38 wins mark the most in school history. Four Cougars were named to the All Tournament Team, first baseman Jenilee Skender, catcher Arelis Ferreris, left fielder Brooke Johnson and pitcher Crystal Briscoe.
