HOUSTON - The University of Houston softball team went 3-2 over the weekend at the Spring Klein College Classic with wins over three fellow Texas teams.
Houston posted wins over Texas A&M and Texas State on Saturday as Bailey Watts went the distance in a 3-0 win against the Aggies. Haley Outon had all three RBIs on a home run and double in the shutout win and contributed three of the four runs in the Cougars 4-3 victory against Texas State.
On Sunday, the Cougars beat Stephen F. Austin 3-1 behind Julana Shrum's arm. The freshman from Porum, Okla. went deep into the game (6.1 IP) before handing the ball over to Watts as the senior shut the door on the Lumberjacks. Haley and Diedre Outon supplied all the run scoring hits in the game for Houston.
Houston dropped games to McNeese State (2-0) and Baylor (10-5).
"It was a long weekend and showed us where we need to improve in our conditioning," head coach Kyla Holas said. "I'm please with our routines and releases that kept us focused on one pitch at a time. I'm excited that we had a chance to get everyone some playing time this weekend and saw great things from everyone all around. Ready to continue building on things this week and finish out the fall."
The Cougars host Alvin and Galveston Community College on Oct. 9 (4 p.m.) and 12 (3:30 p.m.) at Cougar Softball Stadium.
