Softball Opens Fall Preseason Play
Oct. 11, 2013
HOUSTON - The University of Houston softball team took the 11-2 win over San Jacinto and then took cover as the rains came down to cancel the remainder of Friday's preseason games at Cougar Softball Stadium. Saturday's schedule has been adjusted with Houston playing at 9 a.m. (Houston Baptist) and 3 p.m. (Galveston).
The offense appeared just before the storm with a 10 run outpouring coming in the fourth inning. Sydney Gerbracht started the inning with an out but took revenge later by hitting a grand slam following the next eight batters reaching base safely.
Freshman Jordan Rains gave Houston the 3-2 lead to start the fourth-run rally with a two-RBI single, scoring Tiffani McKnight and Selena Hernandez. Alexis Dunn took one for the team to reach before coming around to score on Katie St. Pierre's double.
Rains drove in Hernandez in second with a single to collect the second most RBI (3) on the evening.
Summer Groholski earned the win with four strikeouts facing 18 batters before the rains came down and called the game in the fifth with one out.
