HOUSTON - The University of Houston softball program announced that Kris Davila will join the squad for the upcoming 2014 season. Davila, a transfer from Blinn College, will play infield and catcher for the Cougars following an outstanding junior college career.
A 2012 NJCAA and NFCA All-American, Davila has led the Buccaneers in home runs, RBI and doubles the past two seasons. Davila also earned First Team All-Midwest Region and All-Conference honors in 2012 after batting .388 with a team-leading 11 home runs, 62 RBI, 13 doubles, and 43 runs scored. The Oak Ridge High School grad led the Buccaneers in 2013 with 11 home runs, 61 RBI, 16 doubles while she ranked second on the team batting a .430 average.
The junior will rejoin with fellow Blinn transfer Tiffani McKnight at UH as the duo helped lead Blinn to a 34-20 record in 2013 and a trip to the NJCAA National Championships in 2012.
Davila is one of six newcomers to the squad this year joining juniors McKnight and Alexis Dunn, sophomore Selena Hernandez and freshmen Hayley Chamberlain, Jordan Rains. The influx of incoming talent will join the six starters and nine letterwinners returning from last year's team who advanced to the NCAA Championship for a third-straight season and finished with a 41-20 record.
Houston begins the season on Feb. 14 hosting the Houston Classic with first pitch at 2 p.m. against Sam Houston State.
