HOUSTON (Feb. 13) -- The University of Houston softball team slugged seven hits and posted six runs to win its second game in a row, a 6-1 decision over Texas Southern in its first home game of the season Tuesday evening at Baseball USA.
UH scored its first run in the bottom of the second when starting freshman catcher Arelis Ferreris blasted a solo home run to centerfield. She finished the day with two hits to go along with one RBI. The Cougars then exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fourth on the strength of four hits and a walk.
UH freshman pitcher Ali McDougall used the offensive support to record her first career win of the season. The standout from Surrey, BC Canada allowed only three hits, a walk and struck out six working all seven innings innings. With this win, Cougars improved to 3-3 overall. Texas Southern fell to 2-3.
Houston will next face nationally-ranked power Texas in a double header at home on Wednesday, February 14. First pitch with the Longhorns will be at 5:00 p.m. at Baseball USA.
