HOUSTON - University of Houston’s Haley Outon was named the American Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week the league office announced Monday afternoon. The senior catcher hit three home runs over the five-game span en route to setting the program’s career record home run record at 48.
Outon batted 6-for-13 (.462) with nine RBI and also drew seven walks batting out from the cleanup spot in the UH lineup. The senior catcher scored nine runs over the five-game span and tied a school record by scoring four times in Houston’s 15-1 win over Nicholls.
The native of Pflugerville, Texas, helped Houston to a 4-1 weekend record at the Houston Hilton Plaza Invite giving the team a 9-2 mark for the season. She recorded multiple RBI in three of the five games over the weekend and has six games this season where she has driven in at least two runs.
Outon paces the conference with five home runs, 18 RBI and is tied with teammates Katie St. Pierre and Selena Hernandez for the league lead in runs scored (14).
This is the first time this year Houston has earned an American Player of the Week award and the fourth time of Outon’s career she has earned a league weekly honor.
Sara Nevins of USF earned the American Pitcher of the Week honors for the second-straight week.
