HOUSTON - The University of Houston softball team is set to host the Fourth Annual Striking Out Breast Cancer game on Thursday at Cougar Softball Stadium. Fifty percent of ticket sales and 100 percent of proceeds will benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation for the Cure Houston Affiliate.

The Cougars host a doubleheader against Southern with first pitches scheduled for 5 and 7 p.m.

Houston will opt for pink uniforms instead of the usual home attire for this special game. A silent auction will be held and will feature the game worn jerseys, helmets and other items. Fans can also pledge money for every strikeout (minimum of $1) and every home run (minimum $10).

Pins will be available to purchase for $2 commemorating the event and all proceeds will be donated to the Komen Foundation. Fans are also encouraged to wear pink to show their support, and the first 100 fans will receive a free `Striking Out Breast Cancer Game' t-shirt.

LAST MEETING
Houston last squared off against Southern only two weeks ago, defeating the Jaguars twice at the LSU Tiger Invitational.

In the first contest, the Cougars beat Southern 11-5. Jennifer Klinkert went 2-for-2, driving in four RBI. Jones went 2-for-5 with one RBI and scored two runs. Baillie Lott received the win after pitching 4.2 innings but gave up five runs off five hits. Bailey Watts came in for 2.1 innings to stop the bleeding and didn't allow a single hit or run as she struck out the final four batters.

In the second meeting, Houston defeated the Jaguars 11-3. Sherman and Jones led the team, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run. As a designated player, Lott went 2-for-2 and scored two runs. Watts received the win, pitching a complete game and allowing only three runs on two hits while striking out eight batters.

SUSAN G. KOMEN FOUNDATION
Susan G. Komen fought breast cancer for years and during her treatment sessions envisioned a way to make life better for other women battling breast cancer instead of worrying about her own situation. That concern for others continued even as Susan neared the end of her fight. Moved by Susan's compassion for others, Nancy G. Brinker promised her sister that she would continue Susan's legacy and also continue the crusade to end breast cancer forever.

The Komen foundation is now a global leader for the breast cancer movement, having invested nearly $1.5 billion since inception in 1982. Through the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists, the foundation is now the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.
