Houston Travels to Face Sam Houston State

HOUSTON - The University of Houston softball team travels up I-45 to take on Sam Houston State Wednesday evening in Huntsville, Texas. Houston (16-8, 5-1) and the Bearkats (14-15, 3-3) will play at 5 p.m. before Houston returns home and heads to ECU this weekend for a three-game set against the Pirates. The game against SHSU will be UH's first midweek road tilt of the year and the Cougars are 5-2 away from Houston this year.

LAST TIME OUT Behind Bailey Watts, Houston has won four straight games that she started, including three last week where she threw 21 innings over three games, had 20 strikeouts and a 0.33 ERA. Haley Outon ranks No. 10 in the NCAA in walks as the competition has avoided throwing to the slugger. Against the Knights, Outon drew six intentional walks and took six base on balls the series before at Houston rallied to take a 3-1 win over Purdue at the Seventh Annual Striking Out Breast cancer game against Purdue last Thursday. Holly Anderson hit a two-RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift Houston over the Boilermakers 3-1. ON THE COMPETITION Sam Houston State is led at the plate by Tori Benavidez, who was named the Southland Hitter of the Week on Monday after batting .500 during the five-game stretch. Benavidez is batting .420 for the year and leads four SHSU hitters batting above .300. Hillary Adams leads the slugging efforts with nine home runs and 30 RBI on the year.
Shelby Lancaster leads the efforts from the circle with a 7-5 record, 2.89 ERA and 35 strikeouts over 92 innings this year in 17 appearances this year. ALL-TIME SERIES UP NEXT |
