HOUSTON – After defeating Conference USA rival UTEP 2-1 in a three-game series this past weekend, the University of Houston softball team heads to Lafayette, La., to take on Louisiana-Lafayette in a doubleheader at Lamson Park. The first game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. and the second at 6 p.m.

Houston (18-14, 5-4 C-USA) is looking to notch its first road victory of the season as the team is 0-6 away from Cougar Softball Stadium.

Freshman Ashleigh Jones leads the Cougars, batting .336 with a team-high 110 at bats, 37 hits and two triples. Sophomore Melissa Gregson also leads the Cougar offense with 21 RBI and 20 runs.

Louisiana-Lafayette (19-11, 3-0 Sun Belt) looks to continue its win-streak after sweeping Western Kentucky this past weekend.

Senior Vallie Gaspard leads the way for the Ragin Cajuns with a .440 batting average and is tied for the team-high in hits with 37. Sophomore Christi Orgeron leads the team with 13 homeruns and 42 RBI on the season.

The Cougars trail in the all-time series record, 4-10, with one of their victories coming earlier this season at the Marriott Houston Hobby Classic on Feb. 19, when the Cougars defeated the Ragin Cajuns 2-1.

Following the Louisiana-Lafayette doubleheader, Houston will head to Birmingham, Ala., to face C-USA opponent UAB April 10-11. The series gets under way on Friday in a doubleheader with the games slated to start at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively. The series concludes with Saturday’s game at 11 a.m.
