HOUSTON - The University of Houston softball team hosts Lamar University Thursday afternoon for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. at Cougar Softball Stadium. Houston (22-10, 8-1) and Lamar (15-21) will meet for the first time in series history.
Thursday is Social Media Night at Cougar Softball Stadium with fans encouraged to participate to win prizes. Houston fans can post through Twitter, Facebook, or any other social media avenues with the hashtag #GoCoogs.
LAST TIME OUT
Houston ended BYU's 42-game home non-conference winning streak with a series sweep over their fellow Cougars. Houston won 7-3 on Friday and took the doubleheader, 9-3 and 3-2 over BYU. Houston launched their biggest-opening inning effort on Friday with five runs in the first inning to jump ahead and never look back in the game.
Houston has four batters above .300 this season and are batting a league-best .286 as a team this year. Holly Anderson

(.373) and Haley Outon
(.346) all rank in the top-10 with Kayla Holland
(.321) just on the outside of the conference leaders. Anderson, St. Pierre and Outon are all vying for the team lead in runs with Outon one-up on her two teammates with 22 on the year.
Senior Reina Gaber has the team lead with nine doubles on the year and Houston ranks No. 26 in the NCAA in doubles per game.
Junior Bailey Watts, No. 33 in the NCAA in wins with 12, is Houston's ace on the staff. She's compiled a 1.86 ERA in 18 appearances with 109 innings pitched and 79 strikeouts. The West Columbia (Texas) native picked up a pair of wins recently over BYU this weekend.
The Cardinals restarted their softball program this year after playing the sport from 1983-1987. Led by head coach Holly Bruder, Lamar is competing in in the Southland Conference this year and are 6-6 so far.
Candyce Carter leads Lamar with a .374 average and tied for the team lead in home runs (6). Ashley McDowell is tied for the team lead in home runs with Carter and paces the team in steals with six.
Shannon Millman leads the Cardinals in the circle with the most starts (21), innings (123.0) and strikeouts (74).
Lamar ranks No. 37 in the NCAA in triples per game with six student-athletes collecting at least one.

2013 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Watch List
was one of 50 student-athletes named to the ASA/USA Softball watch list for Player of the Year honors. The Pflugerville (Texas) native was one of four catchers and the only player from C-USA named to the watch list.
Last year slugger Haley Outon
received 14 bases on balls in 174 at bats while hitting 22 home runs (1 HR per 8 AB). This year, pitchers have steered clear of the cleanup hitter, giving out 31 walks in her first 78 at bats. Outon ranks No. 6 in the NCAA in walks per game (0.97 ).
The current class of Houston Cougar softball members has increased the team's record GPA each semester since they arrive to campus and the incoming freshman class in the fall only added to that. Thirteen teammates made school honor roll while the team posted a 3.43 cumulative GPA and a 3.59 semester average.
Houston was bestowed with the 2012 Conference USA Sport Academic Award for the highest GPA in the conference as 18 members of the team made Commissioner's Honor Roll.
HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST SHOT (FIRE AWAY)
set the school record for hit by pitches in a season last year with 21 and the junior shortstop recently became Houston's career leader in the category with 38 bean balls on her career and 17 this year. Cullum was hit four times for the single game record last year at the Austion Regional against Northwestern and ranks No. 19 in the NCAA record books for career hits including her six at Kansas for 43.
Cullum also leads the nation in sacrifice hits per game (0.47).
