HOUSTON - The University of Houston softball team (25-12, 9-3) hosts Jackson State (22-22, 9-1) on April 9 at 6 p.m. at Cougar Softball Stadium. Before the game, head track and field coach Leroy Burrell will throw out the first pitch and following the game a UH Athletics Staff home run derby will place.

The Cougars went 3-2 last week dropping their first Conference USA series on the year with a 2-1 decision to Marshall. Houston took a pair of wins against Lamar last Thursday in walk-off fashion. Katie St. Pierre's seventh-inning single gave Houston the 10-9 win in game one before Kendra Cullum hit a grand slam to clinch the run-ruling victory 8-0 in game two.

Holly Anderson regained the team-lead in batting average (.384) from freshman Katie St. Pierre (.365) over the weekend. St. Pierre saw her program-best 21-game hitting streak come to an end Sunday. Houston collectively is batting .288 with Haley Outon (.362) and Kayla Holland (.330) giving UH three of the top eight and four of the top-14 batters in the league.

Kendra Cullum added another bruise to her hit by pitch tally with her NCAA-leading 18th HBP of the year.

The Lady Tigers are 22-22 on the year and 9-1 in the SWAC. JSU leads the SWAC Eastern Division and took three of the their four games last week with an 0-2 loss at Mississippi State and winning the series against Alcorn State (W, 20-3; W, 9-0; W, 4-1).

Jasmine Warren paces the squad with 32 steals in 41 attempts for the 82 total steals. Warren also bats at a team-leading .366 clip. Lauren Aikens has hit four home runs and No. 3 on the team with a .327 average. Breea Jamerson has handled the bulk of the pitching with 184.2 innings thrown of the possible 283. Jamerson has a 5.17 ERA with a 14-16 record.

Houston is 1-0 all time against Jackson State with the lone win (5-0) coming in 2003.

Houston travels to UTEP (12-22, 1-10) this weekend for a doubleheader on Saturday and single game on Sunday.
