No. 10 Softball Prepares to Host ECU This Weekend

HOUSTON - The University of Houston softball team will play host to Conference USA rival ECU on April 12-13 at Cougar Softball Stadium. The three-game series will air nationally on CBS College Sports in the Cougar's first television appearance this season. Saturday's doubleheader is slated to begin at 1:30pm and 4pm with the final game on Sunday to start at noon.
Jason Knapp (play-by-play) and Ann Schatz (analyst) will call the games' action.
No. 10 Houston is 34-5 overall this season and 10-1 in C-USA. They hold a 12-8 lead in the all-time series against the Pirates. The two programs met four times last season with the Cougars winning three. Their final meeting came in the 2007 C-USA Conference Tournament Championship game with the Cougars coming away with a 1-0 victory.
UH is fresh off a doubleheader win against UTSA on April 9. Houston won with scores of 3-0 and 5-3 behind three Cougar home runs from freshman Jennifer Klinkert and juniors Laurie Wagner and Elaina Nordstrom.
Nordstrom also hit a two-run home run in a 10-3 loss to the USA National Team on April 8.
Wagner leads the team with a .408 batting average. She also has 10 home runs this season, along with Klinkert. The 10 homers are tied for the fifth most home runs in single-season history.
Pitcher Angel Shamblin has a team and league-best 0.60 ERA. She was recently named a Top 25 Finalist for the 2008 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award and is 20-2 in the circle.
The Pirates took two games against UNC Wilmington and are 27-18 this season, with a 5-6 mark in C-USA. They are lead at the play by Stacey Andrews' .381 batting average. Pitcher Toni Paisley has a team-best 1.96 ERA and is 4-1.

Following the series against ECU, Houston will host a doubleheader against Baylor on April 16 before taking to the road for two-straight C-USA series against Tulsa and UAB.
