HOUSTON - University of Houston junior catcher Haley Outon was named the Conference USA Hitter of the Week after leading UH to a 4-0 record with a .500 batting average, two grand slams and 11 RBI last week.
Both of Outon's grand slams came in the same game making her only the fifth player in NCAA history to accomplish the feat. Against the Miners on Saturday (April 13), Outon went 3-for-3 and set a school record with eight RBI in the game and two runs scored in Houston's 10-7 win.
In the first game against UTEP on Saturday, Outon went 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBI while helping Houston to a 17-2 victory.
The native of Pflugerville (Texas) also drew four walks over the week and ranks No. 8 in the NCAA (0.9 per game).
Outon completed the weekend in Houston's 10-1 win batting 1-for-2 with a double, a walk, a run scored and an RBI.
This is the second Hitter of the Week award of Outon's career and first of the season.
Houston travels to Lafayette to take on No. 25 Louisiana on Wednesday with a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m.
