HOUSTON - University of Houston's Haley Outon has been named the Conference USA Hitter of the Week for the second consecutive week the league office Monday. The junior catcher earned the award after batting 5-for-16 with eight RBI, two home runs and two walkoff hits in the Cougars' efforts last week.
Against Tulsa in the weekend series opener, Outon capped the team's three-run rally in the seventh inning by driving in two runs with the bases loaded to give UH the 4-3 win. The second game of Saturday's doubleheader followed suit as Outon hit a solo home run in the seventh to win 3-2.
The wins bumped Houston ahead of TU as the two teams entered the weekend tied for second place in the pivotal league matchup.
